Grabit on the Mac

Heard about WineBottler for the Mac? It’s open source software that lets you “bottle up” Windows applications and run them on your Intel Mac OS X. Since there aren’t any good or free usenet downloaders available for the Mac (boo), I tried bottling up Grabit from Shemes and it works! Here’s how:

[step 1] Download a copy of Grabit and install it on some windows machine.

[step 2] After the install is complete, copy the entire C:\Program Files\Grabit foler over to some directory on your Mac.

[step 3] Download and install WineBottler on your Mac (if you haven’t done so already). Launch WineBottler and click “Create Custom Prefixes”.

For “Install File” browse to the Grabit.exe file inside the Grabit directory you copied to in [Step 2].

Check the “Copy only. Select this…” checkbox and leave everything else as defaults. Then click “Install”.

[step 4] Specify a name and location for your Mac OSX compatible Grabit application and away you go.

[step 5] Launch the created Grabit application and use it like you would in Windows.

That’s it.
