I’ve got a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 rev. 4.0 and my system had issues with turning off after resuming up from sleep or hibernate. Initially, I thought it was a problem with my Windows 10 installation because of my windows insider preview build, but after investigating a bit more, it turns out the issue was firmware F3 released 5/28/15. The firmware update essentially caused the system to overheat and thermal shutdown after resuming from sleep or hibernate.
Here’s what happened:
- Board shipped with F1 firmware originally and the system ran great for over a year.
- Changed mouse to Logitech wireless mouse and system would randomly wake up from sleep/hibernate during the night. I should note that I also updated to Windows 10 during that time, so a lot of changes were made to the OS on the system.
- Thought (erroneously) that motherboard firmware was the cause of the issue and updated firmware to F2, then F3. Neither firmware updates resolved the issue. In retrospect, I should have run a powercfg -lastwake command to see which device caused the system to wake up. Turns out the issue was the Logitech mouse which was waking up my system because it is very sensitive.
- Found that now my system was occasionally turning off during use and after resuming from hibernate/sleep. Checked for minidumps but found none. Thought (erroneously) that windows 10 insider build was to blame. Reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch – this did not fix the issue.
- Installed thermal monitor on the system and found that after resume from sleep/hibernate main CPU fan does not kick on and system slowly overheats until a thermal shutdown is triggered.
- Downgraded back to firmware F1. This resolved all issues with unexpected shutdowns.
- Replaced Logitech wireless mouse with Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and this resolved issue with system randomly waking up from sleep.
So after a lot of unnecessary troubleshooting, I’m happy to say that this issue is finally resolved.

Thanks for posting this. I ran into exactly the same problem. Downgrading to F1 worked for me as well.
Glad i’m not the only one!
I had the same problem, so I contacted the gigabyte techsupport. they gave me a new bios version that fixed this issue. (Version F4b)
Good to know. Any chance you could share the download link or the file itself? I’ll host it.
Thanks,
