Keep your hardwood floors clean

My new place has hardwood floors throughout. With two cats and a litter box it can be a chore to keep it clean. Every week cat hair accumulates under tables and in corners and walking barefoot yields tiny rocks stuck to your feet…ew! I used to sweep the place regularly, but while relatively effective at keeping the litter away, it isn’t an effective way to remove dust or cat hair. Sweeping mostly just stirs it up and moves it around. Here’s how I deal with pet hair and dust.

I got myself a small and relatively cheap bag-less vacuum (Hoover S2200 Flair) on Amazon.com. It’s powerful enough to pickup cat litter but nice and light for easy maneuvering into all those nooks and crannies. It doesn’t require expensive bags and works really well at picking up both cat hair and dust. The filter element is washable, so if loose suction because it’s gunked up with dust, just rinse it well and let it dry. I stayed away from cordless models ones since they never have enough sucking power to get those dust bunnies that are a few inches away. Plus the batteries tend to go dead after just six months.

So if you’re looking for an easy way to keep your hardwood floors pet hair, litter and dust free, then try vacuuming with a small lightweight bag-less…it works for me.
