Increase suction on a bagless vacuum

I’ve got this great little vacuum (Hoofer Flair S2200) from Amazon a few years back for about $35 bucks. It does a good job of cleaning cat hair and the occasional litter pieces off of my hardwood floors, it’s light and easy to maneuver and easy to empty. A year after I got it, though it started losing suction because the filter element became clogged with dust. Rather than having to keep buying replacement filter elements I decided to re-purpose an extra tea infuser and things worked out great.

Here’s what I did:

[required]

1 Hoover Flair S2200 Vaccuum
1 new or used filter element
1 used or new Finum tea brewing basket
wire snips or wire cutter pliers
glue gun

[instructions]

[step 1] Remove the filter element from the vacuum and tear or cut the filter bag from the plastic molding (cut along the red line). Also remove the metal wires designed to keep the filter bag inflated.

[step 2] Using the wire cutters, snip off the two handles off of the brewing basket (cut along the red line).

[step 3] Insert the brewing basket into the bottom of the filter element plastic molding (the end where the filter was previously attached). Once flush with the molding’s opening, place a few hod glue dabs to hold it in place (optional).

[step 4] Seal the area where the molding meets the brew basket with a thin layer of hot glue by pressing the nozzle of the hot glue gun against the side of the opening of the molding and the brew basket.

[step 5] Replace filter element in vacuum and notice a significant increase in suction.

That’s it.
