If you’re like me, that little bit of OCD in you absolutely loathes the nasty sticky mess at the bottom of the garbage can. I had to clean my garbage cans recently because a bag tore open and leaked gross stinky garbage liquid all over the bottom. Since that cleaning, I vowed to never do it again and have found a pretty good way of keeping a garbage can’s bottom clean and tidy. The magic solution is cat litter – who’d have known right? Here’s what you do:
[step 1] Clean your garbage cans with hot water and let them dry completely.
[step 2] Buy a bag of Fresh Step Crystals silica based cat litter and put enough into each can to cover the bottom.

[step 3] Use the garbage can like you normally would. If you have a leak, the crystals will absorb the liquid and the stink.
NOTE: Throw out and replace the Crystals every 6 months or so.
That’s it.
