QuickBooks Desktop with active subscription says it needs subscription
So starting in June 2018 when I tried to install QuickBooks Enterprise 2017 on Windows 10, I observed a new error indicating that I needed a subscription. This error is in in error and here’s how to fix it:

Even with an active QuickBooks subscription, if a QuickBooks Desktop 2017 installer (QuickBooksSetup.exe file) lower than release R9 is used to install the software on Windows 10, you will likely get the error below:
Error: Sorry, it looks like you need a subscription to start using QuickBooks. But don’t worry! We can get you up and running in no time. Just call us at 800-300-8179 to subscribe.

Download the latest QuickBooks installer via the Intuit website at https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products. Then try install using that installer.
